Samson Edeku is one of the best if not, the best solo guitarists in soroti town. He is a humble boda bicycle rider and farmer. He’s guitar play will remind you of the solo you have listened to played by some of the best guitarists in Congo. Rayz melody music was lucky to get in touch with him for a one on one interview. We believe through such publicity talents will be appreciated and given opportunity to shine even more. This is what he said:

WHO TAUGHT YOU?
I was taught by a Congolese man called peter JJ
WHEN DID YOU LEARN GUITER?
I leant acoustic guitar in 1994 but started playing solo in 2005 when I met peter.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN GUITER?
It depends on a person’s capability and how fast your fingers are. It took me a year to start playing fair solo.
OF ALL INSTRUMENTS, WHY DID YOU LEARN SOLO GUITER?
Since I was a child, i love the sound of the guitar. Its sound is very different from all other instruments. I know these local instruments but solo guitar brings excitement to me.
FOR HOW LONG HAVE YOU PLAYED SOLO GUITER?
I’ve played solo guitar for 15 years. It is people who listen to you who tell you how good you are.
WHAT CHALLENGES HAVE YOU FACED AS A SOLO GUITERIST?
We are undermined by church. They want to use us but don’t want to give us anything to motivate us. This has destroyed talent. They just bless you by mouth.
We also face jealousy by people in shows on piano. Because they don’t know how to play solo, they mute your instrument during a session coz you make their piano irrelevant. For this reason most of the people we teach end on the way after facing these kinds of challenges.
WHAT HAVE YOU BENEFITED FROM PLAYING GUITER?
First of all for me it is my joy to serve the lord on guitar. People have been delivered.
I have benefited good money from playing solo guitar in Simon Jackson’s studio (canan records)
HOW DO YOU BALANCE WORK, FAMILY AND MUSIC?
In the morning I ride my boda up to 11am. I take tea and practice my guitar then at 3pm I go back and ride. Then at 7pm at home I practice as I wait for supper. I spare time for it.
