The videos of August 16 and 17, 2008 are from the ACROD Diocesan Pilgrimage at the wooden Rusyn style church built in 2003 at the diocesan Camp Nazareth, located in Mercer,PA. His Eminence, Metropolitan Nicholas, of Johnstown, PA, presided and was assisted by members of the clergy of the ACROD diocese. The wooden curch, dedicated to SS. Cyril and Methodius, the Evangelizers of the Slavs, is constructed in the traditional Carpathian style evocative of the Spis Region near Svidnik and Bardejov in Northeastern Slovakia. The nave is square, with an external porch and a connected open bell tower. (The bells were relocated from the original 1900 era St. Mary's Church of Elkhorn, W.Va. which moved to Bluefield, W.Va. some years ago.) The hand crafted iconostasis is the most noteworthy feature of the interior. The roof shingles were handcrafted in the Rusyn village of Tichy Potok, Slovakia. Icons commenorating the major pilgrimage churches of the Rusyns, from Slovakia, Transcarpathian Ukraine, Poland and Hungary adorn the walls. In 2008 some thirty existing wooden churches in Slovakia were added to the UNESCO as World Heritage sites, worthy of preservation. Those travelling in the Pittsburgh/Youngstown/Cleveland areas are encouraged to visit. Details about the Camp and the Church may be found at:
