This installment of the Behind the Scenes series offers a detailed look at how the Meridian Region’s fittest athletes fared during each day of competition from June 1 to 3 at Caja Mágica in Madrid, Spain.
On Day 1, the athletes take on Triple 3 and Linda, and people in a country known for the running of the bulls watch a different kind of running as CrossFit’s elite take to the treadmills.
Some athletes careen onto the finish mats. Some jog gracefully across. Phil Hesketh wobbles up to his and unceremoniously throws up his breakfast.
The event goes better for Elliot Simmonds, who takes an event win, and Jess Towl sets a new Event 1 record—no easy feat in the final weekend of Regional competition.
The athletes take on a different challenge with Event 2’s heavy barbells.
Hesketh rebounds and takes second, while on the women’s side Jamie Greene gets her second second-place finish and ends the day in first overall.
Rasmus Andersen and Lauren Fisher, one of the Meridian’s power couples, are creeping up the leaderboard after two events. They’re sitting in fifth and third, respectively, and looking to make a statement on Day 2.
