First step involves counselling the patient and family because patient may goes through surgery,chemotherapy and radiotherapy all three sets of treatment. So patient should know about the treatment.
When breast cancer is detected ,then staging needs to done completely and discussed with patient and family.Now a days, once the stage is known surgery called Breast Conservation surgery is done.If the cancer is advanced then three cycles of Chemotherapy is given to reduce the size of lump followed by Breast Conservation surgery.
Just to the possibility woman need not lose the breast , neoadjuvent chemotherapy is given to reduce the size of lump before the operation.
Based on entity called Biological theory of Breast Cancer when detected, cancer might have spread all over the body and so completion chemotherapy and radiotherapy is given.
The complete treatment involves about six months which needs to be known to the patient and family.The counselling by Oncologist and Radiotherapist is also very important.
Sudden incidental detection of the lump in the breast you should be cautious about it.If the lump is very hard or if there is a family history ,then its better to immediately go to the doctor.
Once the doctor examines and he or she can clinically make out whether it looks like cancerous lump then further evaluation tests like Mammogram and Fine Needle Aspiration test are done to detect breast cancer..
