Understanding the properties of materials being used in experiments can be critical for the success of a study. Given that radon is both naturally occurring and abundant, it is important to measure the background of materials in question. These considerations are important when it comes to choosing appropriate materials and when doing calibrations.
During a radon emanation measurement, the number of alpha particles produced by radon in the material can be counted to determine the emanation rate.
