Shea butter comes from the fruit of Shea tree and is naturally rich in vitamins A, E and F. It has been used for years to improve skin and hair. It is native to West Africa and known for its moisturizing and healing powers. It gives you soft, shiny and thick locks. Shea Butter is extracted from shea tree, shea nut tree, shi tree, or vitellaria. Shea butter is known as nkuto or nku in Ghana and is used to protect skin during dry season.
1. Prevents Hair Loss
Shea butter prevents hair loss as it promotes hair growth and works on hair breakage. It contains plant-derived nutrients which protect the hair from harmful elements and thus reduce breakage/loss.
2. Repairs Damaged Hair
Shea butter works like a rescue tonic for shriveled and damaged hair. It is extremely useful for colored or hair-treated damage. The vitamins and fatty acids replenish hair strands to give new lustrous locks.
3. Hair Softener
Shea butter is a natural conditioner for hair. It has the ability to soften dry, frizzy hair with its moisturizing qualities. It can be either coated on strands of hair or applied on the scalp.
4. Protection from environmental pollutants
Shea butter gives protection against UV rays of the sun. Since it has the property of SPF 6, it gives easy protection from damaging sun exposure. It acts as a barrier to chemical pollutants.
5. Protection against Heat
It does not stick on hair but gets absorbed completely. It prevents hair from getting dry and hard on hot, windy days by coating a layer of non-greasy fat on hair strands.
6. Soothes itchy scalp
It possesses anti-inflammatory properties and thus becomes a great source to provide moisture for dry scalp. It gets absorbed easily into the scalp.
7. Tackles scalp problems (dandruff, eczema, dermatitis)
Shea butter can be used on both dry and oily scalp. It helps to fight problems like dandruff and eczema by providing moisture and important nutrients to the scalp.
8. Improves length
Shea butter works on hair damage and scalp. It invariably revamps locks and prevents hair breakage. This leads to increase in hair length.
9. Strengthens hair
Shea butter can be paired with other hair ingredients like coconut oil, egg yolk, etc. to repair damage and strengthen hair strands. It reduces dryness and provides essential nutrients for hair growth.
10. An Alternative to Oil
When used as oil Shea butter does not leave the hair greasy and can be washed off easily. Rubbing it on scalp regularly like twice or thrice a week will keep your hair healthy and rejuvenated.
