If anyone is under the illusion that the Naxals are entirely driven by concern for the poor, perish the thought. Their first job is to arm themselves, then they use it to appropriate the food and other resources that they need for their revolution, and then they dispense rough justice to show the populace that they are going after their exploiters and the corrupt.
But all this Taliban-style justice serves one aim: keep the population in awe of their power. It also helps them extort money from businessmen and traders, without which no revolution can be financed.
