Gary, Indiana, once a thriving city, is now a shell of its former self, with many abandoned buildings that tell the story of its decay. At its peak in 1970, Gary had 175,000 residents, compared to less than 75,000 today. This mass exodus has left Gary with more structures than it needs, as neighborhoods and buildings of all kinds—homes, schools, churches, stores—sit empty and neglected, awaiting eventual demolition. This melancholy landscape of abandonment and urban decay now serves as the backdrop to an eerie ambient musical journey through Gary.
Featuring over 50 haunting scenes, the music allows you to explore Gary’s many vacant spaces, from crumbling houses to graffiti-covered storefronts. Ironically, this destitute city was once home to Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5, who honed their talents in local clubs and competitions during Gary’s heyday, before finding worldwide fame.
