In need of some home security advice? Cat King, shares Phil Spencer's tips on how to secure your home to ensure your home isn't an easy target, particularly when you've just moved in.

HOME SECURITY GUIDE
LOCKS:
When you first move into a new home, make sure you change the locks. So many people don't!

FRONT DOOR:
Did you know that 34% of burglars get into a property through the front door? It goes without saying that your front door should be locked at all times.

Door bars add extra strength and will delay anyone trying to break into your door or kick it down.

LETTERBOX GUARD:
Install a letterbox guard on the back of the door to prevent anyone from reaching in to hook out purses, phones or car keys.

WINDOWS:
Windows are the next most vulnerable entry point. Double glazed windows will also give an intruder a harder time as well as key-operated window locks.

OUTSIDE LIGHTS:
Outside lights are simple but effective deterrents as burglars like dark areas.

OVERGROWN PLANTING:
As well as lighting the outside of your home, remove potential hiding places such as large trees or overgrown bushes, which intruders might use as cover.

SECURITY CAMERAS:
Security cameras can deter thieves or burglars. There are a lot of options on the market to consider, so make sure you get professional advice on the best choice for you.
