🚝🗾 7 DAY JAPAN RAIL PASS – where we went…
A lot of people are asking for Japan Rail Pass advice. Is it worth it? Any tips for travelling around Japan?
💴Although some parts of our journey were not included in the JR pass, it was still cheaper to buy the pass than to pay for each journey separately.
💹As you may already know, the JR Pass is facing a big price increase later this year! After this, you may want to look for alternative ways to travel around Japan. A lot of this journey could have also been done by bus, for example: there is a direct bus from Shinjuku to Hirayu Onsen.
💻The website “JORUDAN” is so useful when planning journeys around Japan. It has a feature where you can check travel that is only valid with the JR pass. It will also give you clear prices, timings, first and last trains of the day and any changes that you have to make.
Here’s the full run through of our journey:
🚝 Tokyo – Matsumoto
🚌 Matsumoto – Hirayu Onsen (*by bus, not included in JR pass)
🚌 Hirayu Onsen – Kamikōchi (*by bus, not included in JR pass)
🚌🚝 Kamikōchi – Shinano-Ōmachi (partly by bus, not included in JR pass)
🚌🚟🚋🚃 Shinano-Ōmachi – Tateyama (we did the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine route which you have to buy a separate ticket for)
🚝 Tateyama – Toyama
🚝 Toyama – Kyōto
🚝 Kyōto – Osaka
🚝 Osaka – Himeji – Osaka
🚝 Osaka – Tokyo (You should stop off at Hakone on the way if you have the energy!)
I will post more videos soon detailing more about the different parts of our trip. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments!
