When Olivia joined G-unit in the early 2000s, and when she appeared on 50 cent’s now classic Candy shop record her career was at an all time high. A lot of people don’t know that before Olivia signed to 50 Cent, she was signed to J records and through the label she released her self-titled debut album called Olivia. The album peaked on the billboard 200 at number 55 and number 22 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums charts. Following the release of her debut album Olivia was dropped from J records, she claimed that the founder of the label Clive Davis was too controlling and forced her to take on a “bad girl” image and soon after that she joined G-Unit records. After being featured on hit records like candy shop, so amazing and best friend it seemed like Olivia was one album away from being the next Ashanti or Beyoncé however she was dropped from G-unit in 2007 and the album she recorded under the label was shelved, but it was later released as a free mixtape. The next time most of us saw Olivia again was on Love and Hip Hop and since then she has tried to get her music career back on track however it’s has become apparent that there is an obvious disconnect between Olivia and her fanbase. Now the question is, why didn’t Olivia blow up on G-Unit records and why didn’t she become the mega star that she aspired to be?
