Merv xx Gotti is the award-winning Canadian multi-genre artist behind the solo singer-songwriter dream-pop project, "Guitar Songs.” He is also the singer of the hip-hop/R&B duo, Samurai Champs, as well as the indie-emo band, GHOSTFORM. Additionally, he is the Founder and Artistic Director of the award-winning Canadian DJ & artist collective, Trifecta Sound Co.
Merv xx Gotti has toured internationally, performing at festivals such as SXSW (US), Music Matters Live (Singapore), NXNE (Canada), The Great Escape (UK), Reeperbahn (Germany), Tallinn Music Week (Estonia), and more. His work has been featured on CBC Canada, Gigwise, Exclaim!, and VICE Noisey. With Samurai Champs, he has received multiple nominations for Western Canadian Music Awards (WCMAs) - Hip Hop Artist of the Year & R&B Artist of the Year, as well as received Saskatchewan Music Awards’ Hip Hop Artist of the Year.
In his role as Artistic Director of Trifecta Sound Co., Merv xx Gotti has been recognized for his contributions in community building. He has presented at festival conferences such as BreakOut West and Wavelength Festival, received accolades from CBC's Future 40 and TD Bank's Creative Entrepreneurship Incubator, as well as presented at the Congress of Humanities and Social Sciences. Most recently, he garnered national attention from CBC Canada for his creative and community contributions during Asian Heritage Month. In 2023, Trifecta Sound Co. won two industry awards at the Saskatchewan Music Awards - one for Industry Achievement and the other for Music Organization of the Year.
His latest project, "Guitar Songs," explores a more minimal sound, emphasizing androgynous, dreamy vocals to deliver vulnerable, sincere songwriting. The first single from the project, “Jiujitsu,” was the biggest syndication pick-up in the past 5 years for a Saskatchewan artist as it was played by 21 CBC stations across the country. Online, singles from “Guitar Songs” have already amassed over 100,000 streams on Spotify and been picked up on multiple influencer playlists.
The debut EP release for "Guitar Songs" is scheduled for Spring 2024.
