In Spokane Washington, more than 1 billion gallons of untreated stormwater runoff enters the Spokane River each year. Untreated stormwater is devastating to downstream ecosystems, habitats, and human life. In the West Central neighborhood of Spokane, access to local nutritious foods and recreation needs to be improved. As unemployment rises, Aquaponic and Hydroponic farming will provide the residents of Spokane with local job opportunities that will increase West Central neighborhoods access to nutritious foods. Relook Overlook aims to create a sustainable relationship between working, eating and moving. By collecting, treating and recycling stormwater runoff before it enters the Spokane River, the architectural system helps to improve regional water quality and provide access to nutritional foods, exercise and job opportunities.
