Japanese street food is becoming more and more popular, rivaling the popularity of those in Taiwan and Thailand. What makes Japanese street food special is its variety, freshness of ingredients and of course, its quality.

Okonomiyaki is a type of Japanese street food pancake made with batter and fresh vegetables. It is known to have originated in the city of Osaka which is located in the Kansai region of Japan although the dish can be found throughout Japan.

Osaka-style okonomiyaki is the most common and it contains batter made of flour, nagaimo (a type of yam), water, eggs and lots of shredded cabbage. Seafood, a slice of thin pork belly, egg, noodles, onions and other ingredients may be added and is usually cooked on hotplate. The dish is panfried on both sides and served with okonomiyaki sauce (a type of sweet sauce), seaweed flakes, bonito flakes, Japanese mayonnaise and picked ginger.
