Stunning day for a hike, so headed to Arran to bag Goat Fell again.....visibility was fantastic, I could see the summit as I was driving through Largs.
Great relaxed ferry trip over and then walked from the pier along the fishermans walk to the Brewery and headed up.
Nice steady hike up, met 20 to 30 folk coming down, I asked each of them did they summit, all said no, except one fella, saying it was too dodgy, as the path up through the rocks was iced over and only route up was via a almost vertical overhang. I thought I would give it a go and see how far I got.
As I was heading up the route was almost entirely snow/ice free except for the last section, as the folk said it was extremely steep, some snow patches were appearing, so put on the spkies and managed up through it and tried scrambling over a few boulders, and then stopped and assessed the situation, I was almost at the summit, and felt I could get there, my main concern was having to scramble back down this route.
So decided to call it guits there, stopped and had lunch and then headed down.
Catching the 4.40 ferry with ten minutes to spare.
Sat on the top deck with a coffee and watched the sunset over Arran....simply majestic end to a great day
