A video posted on social media platforms shows Sudanese civilians watching from the streets as gunshots are heard amid fighting prior to Tuesday’s ceasefire.
At least 270 people have been killed and 2,600 wounded according to the UN.
Yesterday, the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced that they had agreed to a day-long armistice to evacuate civilians, but that was shattered by the sound of warplanes, gunshots and tank fire. Each side accused the other of breaking the truce.
On Wednesday, Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces said it agreed to a 24-hour ceasefire, starting at 6pm local time. Sudan's army is yet to confirm whether it will abide by the proposed truce
