Released my red tailed hawk Scout this morning. I trapped her six years ago and have had six wonderful hunting seasons with her. One of the advantages of falconry in the U.S is that falconers have the opportunity to trap certain raptor species from the wild. Only hawks less than one year of age may be trapped as many do not live through the first year in the wild. As a falconer's hawk they are given the opportunity to sharpen their hunting skills and make it through the critical first year. Scout has proved herself to be a worthy hunter and is ready to join the breeding population. Thanks for the memories.
