After six-months on the road speaking (in an effort to uncover someone in California better suited than he for the Governor's Office) Ronald Reagan capitulated to public sentiment and officially announced his candidacy for Governor of California. The January 4, 1966 Televised Special gave not only a clear definition of what California's problems were, but also recognized America's problems, what Conservatism is, and how it was the solution needed to bring California, and the Nation back.
It didn't happen overnight, but the framework outlined by Reagan here in 1966, was to live on for the next 25 years, culminating with the economic and patriotic revival of America and Americanism, and (as a byproduct) the eventual defeat of the Soviet Union.
In the course of the speech, Reagan also gave a brief but very interesting 5-minute mini biography outlining his experience and suitability for office, if so chosen.
We may never see another Ronald Reagan, but God willing, the United States of America will shine again.
