Turkey’s housing market has reached a crisis point, with the two largest cities, Istanbul and Ankara, witnessing the world’s fastest house price growth over the past year. Rents have surged six-fold in the last four years, creating an untenable situation for many. The soaring costs have led to violent confrontations between landlords and tenants, resulting in 11 deaths and 46 injuries last year. The situation remains dire, with little relief in sight for those struggling to afford housing in a rapidly escalating market.
Al Jazeera’s Sinem Koseoglu reports from Istanbul.
