Nutan Samarth better known as Nutan, was an Indian film actress was born on 4 June 1936 in Bombay, Bombay Presidency, British India. Her father Kumarsen Samarth was a director and poet.Her mother Shobhana Samarth was an Indian film actress. She Had two sisters: actress Tanuja and Chatura and a brother Jaideep.

Nutan was married to naval Lieutenant-Commander Rajnish Bahl in 1959. Her husband died from a fire accident in his apartment in 2004. They had a son, Mohnish Bahl, who is a film and television actor.
