I've been using iPhone 15 Pro Max Apple LOG and H.265 encoding on my iPhone 15 for a few weeks now, and I'm really impressed with the results. The footage looks great, even in low light, and the file sizes are significantly smaller than they would be with ProRes. H.265 when tested looks better than ProRes proxy and LT, only a little bit les quality than the ProRes 422HQ default by the Camera App.
Here are a few tips for using Apple LOG and H.265 encoding on your iPhone 15:
- UNDER EXPOSE to save the highlight. You will be impressed with how much you can recover from the shadows.
- Set the white balance and exposure carefully before you start recording.
- Don't be afraid to experiment with different color grades in post-production.
- If you're not sure how to grade your footage, there are many tutorials available online.
- Use H.265 encoding to save space on your device.
