Dr. Kenneth Silverman, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and founder and director of the Center for Learning and Health, presented, "Utility of Operant Conditioning to Address Poverty-Related Health Disparities," as part of the Vermont Center on Health and Behavior's Lecture Series. He describes proximal and distal operant approaches to promote health in low-income populations; how operant conditioning can be used to promote drug abstinence and medication adherence; and describe how models of the therapeutic workplace have increased employment and reduced poverty in low-income, unemployed adults.
