What's Great about Edinburgh Fringe

I've toured North America out of a Mazda 3, spent 2 years exploring the United Kingdom out of a broken down Citroen Berlingo, lived out of a Volkswagen Transporter in Australia during the 2020 lockdown, and the year after renovated my dream van a Ford Econoline named Moe. This week I share all the reasons why I love the biggest arts festival in the world; Edinburgh Fringe.
Every Wednesday, I release a video update in the life of this comedy cowboy, so you can get a glimpse into what people are calling 'living the dream.' Laced with an original score by Andrew Watson, grab a front seat beside this pavement pounding comic that never leaves the road.

What's Great about the Edinburgh Fringe | What is the Edinburgh Fringe | Best Fringe Festival
Edinburgh Scotland is a beautifully old cobblestone city with a castle in it, despite this day to day life here can be a touch gloomy as the sun only shows it’s face about as much as the Lochness monster. However for one entire month out of the year the streets explode with tourists as it hosts the largest fringe festival in the world. Rain or shine 1000s of artists package their talents into daily shows that fill the streets, pop up spaces, and rooms all around the city looking to connect with our audiences, expand our brand, and hopefully come away with a bit of money.
This is what’s great about the Edinburgh Fringe.
INTRO
As a stand up I have a tendency to get lost in the comedy sector of the Edinburgh Fringe, particularly the free festival as Laughing Horse is the company through which I’ve registered my show.
So I’m always thrilled when a friends drags me to another genre show as this festival hosts every type of performance you can imagine and beyond what you thought was even possible.
From the complex circus production to a live band playing all of the greatest karaoke hits for the crowd to sing along to, to magic shows with a theme to shows for kids that end in a nerf blaster battle.
Suspense, Drama, Comedy, Tragedy sometimes done purposely, sometimes not.
Despite the diversity in shows and performers from all walks of life, we’re all in this together whether we realize it or not.
Regardless of the size of our performance space, or the achelaids we’ve received, or the amount of people coming to our shows each of us have our little corner of this historical city doing the thing that we’re meant to be doing. And that within itself is already pretty darn cool.
Every August we migrate from all over to make you feel, ponder, cry and laugh although sometimes that’s not the intention
.
Despite the crowds being as diverse as the acts and the right performance can bring us closer together making it feel like we grew up right next door to each other.
Looking back on it this month feels like a brief moment, when you’re in the the thick of it you’re counting down the days, and when the ending is in sight you have a feeling of sadness that it’s all over.
Pouring rain, blazing sun, equipment failure, sickness, tiredness or irresponsibility the show must go on.
That’s why we’re here, and that’s what makes the Edinburgh Fringe Festival Great.
