Despite everything, the worst was yet to come. The Greek government prevented the Greek Royal Family from stepping on Hellenic territory, which meant not being able to bury the one who had been Queen of Greece for almost two decades. It was tough negotiations of almost a week between the Spanish government and Hellenic to get a single concession: the Greek Royal Family could return to Greece for just five hours.
Finally Queen Federica was able to fulfill her wish to be buried with her husband in the gardens of the Tatoi Palace on February 12, 1981 before the heartbroken cry of her eldest daughter and the tragic countenance of the son who became King without a throne. But nothing mattered anymore. At last the Queen of Greece would live forever in the company of the great love of her life, leaving behind a legacy full of love and hope.
