After hearing about some good results using “engine oil flush” I decided to give it a shot. My engine had 200k miles and I religiously changed the oil, although the previous owners probably did not. Long story short, the engine flush knocked some debris or sludge loose and it clogged an oil passage, causing the bearings (in this case only one) to overheat and eventually fail. I destroyed a rod bearing shortly after performing this engine flush and after doing research Ive found that this is very possible and probably exactly what happened. PLEASE, for the sake of your own vehicle, DO NOT USE ENGINE FLUSH. The only thing that belongs in your engine is OIL and if you want to “flush” your crankcase, do so by just simply changing the oil every 1000 miles. Hope this saves at least one person from attempting an engine oil flush on their higher miles BMW.
