The eruption of the Hunga Tonga–Hunga Haʻapai volcano on 15th January 2022 sent a huge shockwave around the planet.
This video uses data from the global fleet of weather satellites to follow the shockwave: It covers 24 hours, starting one hour before the eruption. The volcano is on the lower left of the video. Watch how the shockwave spreads out, travelling the planet and meeting again in Western Algeria!
