The Dongqing Indigenous village has celebrated the launch of a new traditional fishing boat. The 10-meter boat was built entirely by hand over two years. It was pushed out to sea in a blessing ceremony on Friday, in front of spectators from near and far.

Boats are indispensible to Orchid Island’s Tao people, who are Taiwan’s only maritime Indigenous group. The last time that the village launched a new traditional boat was 10 years ago.
