Buckminster Fuller proposed a solution to the question: what happens if suddenly a lot of people arrive on Earth and we need to provide housing for them? The idea is to build floating habitats with the help of the geodesic spheres. If the air inside the sphere is hotter than the outside sphere, they will float, thus making a flying city.
