Villamoura
Vilamoura is a resort in the Algarve region of southern Portugal. It’s known for its large marina, golf courses and casino, and for sandy Vilamoura Beach. Cerro da Vila archaeological museum has a ruined Roman villa with bathhouses and mosaics. Red cliffs line Falésia Beach, which stretches west to the fishing village Olhos de Água. Vilamoura merges with the town of Quarteira, to the southeast, with more beaches.
The Algarve (UK: /ælˈɡɑːrv, ˈælɡ-/, US: /ɑːlˈɡɑːrvə, ælˈ-/,Portuguese: [alˈɡaɾvɨ] (About this soundlisten), Arabic: الغرب, romanized: al-gharb (Algarbe), lit. 'the west') is the southernmost region of continental Portugal. It has an area of 4,997 km2 (1,929 sq mi) with 451,006 permanent inhabitants, and incorporates 16 municipalities.
The region has its administrative centre in the city of Faro, where both the region's international airport (IATA: FAO) and public university, the University of Algarve, are located. The region coincides with Faro District. Tourism and related activities are extensive and make up the bulk of the Algarve's summer economy. Production of food, which includes fish and other seafood, different types of fruit such as oranges, figs, plums, carob beans, and almonds, are also economically important in the region.
Although Lisbon surpasses the Algarve in terms of tourism revenue, the Algarve is still, overall, considered to be the biggest and most important Portuguese tourist region, having received an estimated total of 7.1 million tourists in 2017. Its population triples in the peak holiday season due to seasonal residents. Due to the high standards of quality of life, mainly regarding safety and access to public health services, as well as due to cultural factors and considerably good weather conditions, the Algarve is becoming increasingly sought after, mostly by central and northern Europeans, as a permanent place to settle. A 2016 American-based study concluded that the Algarve was the world's best place to retire.
The Algarve is one of the most developed regions of Portugal and, with a GDP per capita at 83% of the European Union average, it has the second highest purchasing power in the country, standing only behind Lisbon

Modern, lively and sophisticated, Vilamoura has developed around its marina, and is today one of the largest leisure resorts in Europe.
The town is built around a tourist resort begun in the 1970s. But the Romans already knew the area, as is clear from the ruins of Cerro da Vila, preserved in the museum of the same name, beside the access road to Falésia Beach.
Excellent hotels and tourist villages, and golf courses of international repute offer a complete package for those looking to spend some relaxing days by the sea. The marina, the largest in the country with 1300 berths, is the main hub of entertainment, not only for those who arrive by boat, but for everyone spending a holiday in the area and who come here in the late afternoon or evening to enjoy an ice cream or dinner. It’s also the right place for shopping, with a wide range from local craft stores to the most prestigious international brands. As for the nightlife, there are many bars and clubs with the best DJs and the Vilamoura Casino promises to really get the adrenaline running.
There are countless activities to do during the day. Tennis, horse riding, sailing, windsurfing, jet skiing, parasailing, boat trips, fishing, the range is so huge you’ll be spoilt for choice. The warm waters and golden sands are a stone’s throw away. From the pontoon east from the Marina, the sands of Vilamoura Beach extend to Quarteira; and to the west is Falésia Beach, which stretches for miles, only finishing at Olhos de Água, so there’s plenty of space to lay out your towel and sunbathe on the beach. Safety conditions are the best, and there are many amusements for a few perfect days at the seaside.
