Dear Brothers and Sisters,
The Christian Holy Day of Pentecost Sunday commemorates the coming of the Holy Spirit in the form of flames to the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ, as recorded in the New Testament of the Holy Bible in Acts 2.
The Holy Spirit allowed the apostles to speak in other languages, and they started preaching the word of Jesus to the Jews who were in Jerusalem for the feast of Shavuot.
Upon hearing the unfamiliar language spoken, the gathered onlookers in Jerusalem believed them to be drunk.
But, Saint Peter explained they were in fact inspired by the spirit.
Saint Peter then delivered the first Christian sermon, which led to the conversion and baptism of 3,000 people.
It is this sermon that many believe was the birth of the Christian church as an official movement.
Pentecost Sunday, is observed on the seventh Sunday after Easter and 10 days after the Ascension of Jesus Christ.
