Maharashtra and Gujarat Government have announced that they will cut the VAT on fuel soon after Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced the Centre's decision to cut down the excise duty it charges on fuels by Rs 1.5 per litre. Jaitley said that he will write to the different state governments asking them to reciprocate and reduce their taxes by a similar Rs 2.5 per litre. Jaitley made this announcement at a surprise press conference in New Delhi where he once again, blamed international crude prices for the near-daily rise in petrol and diesel prices.
