Sleeping pads for backpacking can be really expensive. In fact, the top pads on the market can easily exceed $200. But do you really need to spend that much on a sleeping pad to get good sleep in the backcountry? Well, not necessarily , but the more expensive pads are generally far superior to the budget pads. One thing to keep in mind though, if you are willing to be patient, do some research, and be diligent to monitor the major suppliers you can find some amazing deals. I found the Big Agnes AXL 25" x 78" pads on sale at REI for $ 65.97 about 2 years ago. I bought 2 at the time, but not wish that I had purchased 4 of them.
