RTX 4080 & 4090 Power Supply Requirements - Minimum PSU Wattage
So Nvidia just revealed their RTX 4070, 4080, and 4090 GPUs, and while the performance is mighty impressive, it looks like power requirements are going up yet again, and this time it's not just the stated TDPs which are rising, but rumor has it these new GPUs will suffer from intense power spikes which many power supplies simply weren’t built to handle. According to Nvidia the RTX 4090 will have a TDP of 450W, the RTX 4080 16GB has a TDP of 320W, and the 4080 12GB (AKA 4070) has a TDP of 285W. Many gamers who run enthusiast gaming PCs are running 750W to 850W PSUs, and are starting to ask the question, will my 750W PSU be able to handle the RTX 4080, or do I need to buy a 1000W PSU.
