Why is it important to keep leather cleaned and preserved? Last year I got the opportunity to interview Darel Phillips about leather preservation. In this video, we use his techniques to demonstrate how to preserve the leather slings and bayonet which were not in the best condition. I have to say these methods worked great. The same methods can be used for all sorts of military surplus and antique leather relics. Historic preservation makes a difference, the more time you let the items decay, they worse they will get over time. So it is important to take action now and preserve any vintage leather items you have in your collection such as holsters, slings, boots, belts, etc.
The footage was from a previous video we filmed where we interviewed Army Combat Veteran, Entrepreneur, and Owner of DP Custom Leatherworks, Darel Pillips. Darel is very knowledgable when it comes to working with leather. From wallets to saddles, Darel has decades of experience curating and crafting leather goods. We used the same footage but used new footage of us cleaning and oiling the leather relics to show what the difference is.
