Three weeks ago, Caroline saw this injured Canada goose struggling to swim in Milton’s Mill Pond with a large fishing lure (about 5 inches long) caught in his wing. TWC’s rescue team was called to carefully capture and bring him to TWC for care. After performing x-rays, medical staff gently removed the lure and found swelling around the bone-deep wound, which appeared to have been there for some time. The injury is healing well, and the goose has been placed with other Canada geese recovering in care.
Always remain mindful of wildlife if you are fishing and miscast – please retrieve any line that gets tangled in nearby vegetation. Leaving fishing line in the environment can be fatal when wildlife becomes entangled in fishing gear or line. If you accidentally hook a bird or find an animal in distress, please call TWC’s hotline at 416-631-0662 to learn the best course of action.
