The Genesis brand has been one of the recent disrupters of the automotive world. Their targets are extremely clear with European brands in their crosshairs. It’s a simple formula, offer luxury performance models at a lower price. Granted that’s an oversimplification of what they’re doing but it’s working!

The most eye catching thing about the Genesis G70 has to be it’s refreshed front end. The LED quad headlights are extremely unique design that not only look great, but they also output a great amount of light. The loaner G70 that we had was optioned with the Siberian Ice color. My wife and I had a game all week with this white colored car. We’d take pictures every time we went for a drive because in different lighting, it would show from an extremely white color, to a dark gray similar to a light version of Audi’s Nardo Gray.

When I opened the door, I was surprised by the beautiful diamond pattered red stitching for the leatherette door inserts. To add to the beauty, our G70 had the brushed aluminum trim around the one of the fifteen Lexicon speakers. Not only did the system look great, it also sounded incredible. You get in and sit in seats that have the same diamond pattern in both the front and back seating areas. The front seats are both heated and cooled and were able to compete with Texas summer weather. My favorite part about the seats was switching into Sport mode and the side bolsters tightening up to let you know that it means party time.

To help with the party time is the 3.3L V6 twin turbo engine. Although the max power is 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft. of torque, the feeling was way more than that. When you used the launch control, it was all that power to the ground with no loss of traction or fuel cutting that often plagues launch control systems. With this being the RWD model, it did allow for some fun and controllable wheel slippage. The feeling was exhilarating and I’d be hesitant on going with the AWD model if it means that thrill is removed. To add to the thrill was the limited-slip differential that provided a mid corner rotation like I’ve never experienced in any other car.

It’s clear that this sedan is going after the likes of Audi’s S4, Mercedes’ E-Class, and BMW’s M3. Although some of those outperform the G70, they are also priced almost twice as much. If you can get passed the badging and don’t care about the status symbols of Euro luxury, the 2022 Genesis G70 is a no brainer.
