Speaker Biography: David Haussler is Scientific Director of the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) Genomics Institute and Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Investigator. Haussler uses mathematics, computer science, and biology to study the genomes of organisms with the goal of understanding disease and evolution. As part of the Human Genome Project, he led the team that published the first publicly available draft of the human genome sequence. He now heads several large-scale projects, including the Genome 10K Project, the UCSC Cancer Genomics Hub (CGHub), and the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health.
