A #Black student, Darryl George, at Barbers Hill High School in Texas, has faced repeated in-school #suspensions for wearing #dreadlocks, a decision taken despite #Texas recently outlawing racial discrimination based on hairstyles.
The #school argues his dreadlocks violate the district's dress code as they fall below his eyebrows and ear lobes.
This incident tests Texas's recent adoption of the #CROWNAct, which aims to prevent race-based hair #discrimination. Historically, dreadlocks hold #cultural and #religious importance for many in the Black community.
The school's policy has come under scrutiny for possibly being #prejudiced towards Black hairstyles. George's suspensions have adversely affected his academics and extracurricular activities.
