We want to get the US dollar rate from the Danish National Bank and write it back to Excel with Microsoft Power Automate Desktop.
0:38 Prepare Data
Download the Excel book. Create a new folder on your desktop and place the downloaded file into the folder. Copy the path of the folder (we will use it in PAD).
2:00 Set Variable
We use a variable to store the project path. This is best practice, as we only need to change one action if the project path changes (it will).
3:15 Initialize Excel
Use the variable to open the Excel document with a Launch Excel action. Next, untick the make instance visible (we don't need to see what's happening). Next, use the Close Excel action to close the Excel instance again - this is important since Power Automate Desktop will lock your Excel book. Finally, use a Set Active Excel worksheet action to specify the sheet we want to automate.
7:12 Browser Automation
Use a Launch new Chrome action to open a Chrome instance. The Click link on web action lets us click a web element - inspect the UI element afterward to learn a little about the structure of the selector. A selector is an address for the browser element.
14:10 Write data to Excel worksheet
We use a Write to Excel worksheet to write the scraped data back to Excel.
