Have you ever wondered why your cheap off-brand amp that claims it will output a ton of power is getting blown away by your buddies' systems? Me too! BUT I've found the solution to get your cheap amp to output the watts printed on the box!
We took a cheap Planet Audio AC1500.1M amplifier and tested it's output voltage at 1 ohm, 2 ohms, and 4 ohms using a dual 2 ohm subwoofer, then calculated the output watts using the voltage measured at the speaker terminal. The results may (or may not) surprise you.
The test bench is powered by a Mean Well 12 volt 600 watt (50 amp) power supply. The output voltage of this power supply has been set to 13.9 volts, and during testing the voltage did not drop below 13.5 volts.
Watch the video until the end to find out how to get these cheap amps to output the wattage printed on the box!
FYI: I am currently planning a series documenting the start to finish installation of my budget sound quality-oriented car audio system around May 2016, so don't forget to subscribe to the channel so you'll know when I post them!
