Dr. Ghada Karmi is a Nakba survivor and a prominent Palestinian activist since the 1970s. She is the author of several acclaimed books, including the best-selling memoirs In Search of Fatima (2002) and Return: A Palestinian Memoir (2015). Her latest work, One State: The Only Democratic Future for Palestine-Israel, was published in 2023 by Pluto Press. Born in Jerusalem, Dr. Karmi and her family were forced to leave their home due to the establishment of Israel in 1948. She has spent several decades in Great Britain, where she trained as a Doctor of Medicine at Bristol University. In 1972, she founded the first British-Palestinian medical charity and has served as an Associate Fellow at the Royal Institute for International Affairs, as well as a research fellow at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, University of Exeter.
In her talk, Dr. Karmi reflected on her experiences surviving the Nakba, her political activism for Palestine, and the resilience of Palestinians in Gaza and beyond. She also shared her perspectives on the future of Palestine and provided advice to young Palestinian activists who wish to make a difference.
