Ghost nets are commercial fishing nets that have been abandoned or discarded at sea. Even though they no longer serve a purpose, they continue haunting our oceans as they keep fishing without end.
Every year, several million creatures get caught in these free-floating nets. They are responsible for trapping and killing sharks, rays, turtles, dolphins, whales, crustaceans, and birds. Even these nets are life-threatening for scuba divers, freedivers, and for other water sports. Entangling with ghost nets is also a serious life-threatening situation for scuba divers, freedivers, and commercial divers.
