We have often seen investors who bought listed shares from the stock market, waited patiently for a long time, and eventually made a profit. However, when good businesses come to India, it’s important not to think that those of us who are waiting for an IPO, unsure if we’ll get one through a lucky draw, are at a disadvantage. If people recognize good companies, they will often buy shares in the gray market before the IPO.
In 2021, Mr. Rakesh Jhunjhunwala mentioned that his unlisted stocks yielded greater profits than his listed ones. That same year, Radhakrishnan Damani, who invested in unlisted shares of Chennai Super Kings, made a 800% profit in just three years. In the past, such opportunities were more accessible even to venture capitalists and high-net-worth individuals due to the possibility of starting investments in cities.
Today, even small investors can participate and potentially make significant profits. However, this approach has its advantages and disadvantages. It’s important to understand the tax implications and learn how to buy and sell effectively.
