Spanish police seized 11 tons of hashish smuggled from Morocco to Spain. The drugs were hidden in gas tanks inside trucks that were loaded on cargo ferries in Morocco and shipped to southern Spain before being transported to a warehouse in Toledo. From there, some hashish was loaded onto other trucks that were carrying legal merchandise to Madrid. Other shipments were destined for distribution in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. Authorities said the drug ring was a major player in the European drug market. A total of 35 people were arrested, including 31 Moroccans, three Spanish nationals and a Belgian woman. Police also seized more than 100,000 euros in cash, 14 vehicles and 109 cell phones.
