In this video, Michael Shannon covers how to create custom IPS signatures, which is a critical skill for IPS security specialists. He explains how to create a custom signature from scratch at the command line. He also shows you how to clone one through the IME interface and how you can use this interface to test the signature.
After watching this video, you will know the various ways in which you can create a custom IPS signature. Michael shows you, step-by-step, how to create one of these signatures on the command line. He provides an example of creating a signature to look for bad telnet login attempts over an inline VLAN pair. He then goes to the IME interface and finds the signature that he just created. He also shows you how you can edit this signature and test that it is working correctly. Finally, he shows you how you can create a custom signature by cloning an existing one in the interface.
