Some cool news here! Neil Murray, the bass player who wrote and recorded the awesome bass-line on my last upload, “Fool For Your Loving” by White Snake, actually stopped by and left a comment on the video. Stop back and check it out if you like. I “Pinned” it, which means that it will be the first comment you see. Who knew such technology existed? It also means that I had to take the pin off of David Kidd’s insult, but you can still find “that” near the bottom of the comment pile if you’re into that sort of thing.

I subscribed. You might want to subscribe too, as he plans on doing some videos featuring a number of his well known bass-lines. I don't want to miss that.
This was another song suggestion that I started learning immediately after listening to it (if it was you who made the suggestion, please step forward and accept responsibility). Of course I remembered it from my childhood, but it’s been many, many years since I’ve heard it. I have to tell you that I had quite the struggle with this song. I did quite a few takes and even wound up rerecording it (I’ll post a link to an unpublished video of this song using another bass at the bottom of this text). The reason I redid it was because I realized that I was playing the little walk-up during the verses incorrectly and it was bugging me. I believe the walk-up is chromatic - F, F#, G…and I played it - E, F, G in the other version. I can’t put my finger on exactly what I found difficult about the song, I’ll just say that it was a tough one. I believe it is slightly sharp (or flat...I forget) of concert pitch.
It’s “What’cha Gonna Do?” by Pablo Cruise off of their album, “A Place in the Sun” which came out in 1977 and featured Bud Cockrell on bass.
I’m playing a Kramer-era Spector NS-2A. For some reason I felt that I needed another one, but in Teal. It’s a little brighter than my other, Black, NS-2A. I think the reason for that may be because this bass has active EMG’s in it (not sure how that was accomplished as I thought the K-Haz Pre-amp only handled passive p/u’s) and the Black bass has passives.
