Are aftermarket parts as good as OEM? Welcome to Mercie J, where compassion and craftsmanship come together. I’m Rick Smith, master certified technician. There’s two answers of that. Yes and no. It really does depend on the part. Some parts on a car believe it or not, the manufactures are not actually making. They put all of the specifications together and then they have different companies bid on the project. For example, years ago when we had distributors and I worked for Nissan. Hitachi might bid on it, Mitsubishi might bid on it, Nippon Denso might bid on it. So they didn’t actually manufacture the part but it was up to the manufacture to control the standard. So there are plenty of aftermarket parts that do a fantastic job and there’s plenty of OEM parts that unfortunately I don’t think were design well, so the aftermarket ones are actually better. Then sometimes the aftermarket ones aren’t as good. So I with I can answer the question for you better. I know for us in our shop, we kind of prefer OEM when it comes to sensors because those seem to be more specific. Engine mounts typically there’s a very specific composition of those so the aftermarkets have a tough time sometime on those but then other stuff we find we actually like better than the OE. So I wish I had a better answer for you. Do you research, post a lot of questions on any individual part you’re getting. Look at reviews and that’s gonna be your best shot in determining whether you’re better off with an aftermarket part or an OE part in that situation. Thanks for watching until next time.
