The definition of phobia is an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something. There are some weird phobias you never even thought could exist or even possible. It makes you wonder how these weird human fears comparison develop in the first place.

The difference between a simple fear and a phobia is a normal fear is just a dislike of something. People with mental issues and phobias show physical symptoms when confronted with their phobia such as sweating, trembling, tachycardia (rapid heartbeat), pain or tightness in the chest. Fainting or passing out from overstimulation is not common.

The two most common ways to overcome a phobia is with psychotherapy and with medication. First the phobia needs to be identified with the criteria outlined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5).

Psychotherapy, exposure therapy and Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) both involve gradual repeated exposure to the fear. The mental health professional will help you cope with the fear associated with the phobia in baby steps.

Medications involve beta-blockers and sedatives to help calm your bodies response to adrenaline, heart rate and help you relax.
