#Democratic Senator from #Vermont, #berniesanders2020 held an afternoon press conference today to officially announce his 2016 Presidential run for the White House. After a short reading of prepared remarks, Sanders spent a great deal of his time taking questions from reporters, while laying out his agenda for the country - focusing mostly on the wealth gap and the 'billionaire class' that is “literally able to buy elections” - an accusation Bernie has made on several occasions - frequently, using the attack against Charles and David Koch, commonly referred to as the Koch Brothers.
Sanders is poised to make waves in what appears to be an election of populist favorites from the left and right. #Republican foe, businessman, Donald #Trump is also viewed as a populist candidate and has emerged as the favorite in a thin line-up of would-be Republican contenders. Sanders, however, carries with him a sound and relatable message - while possessing a tremendously loyal following. The nomination is unfortunately, universally viewed as Hillary Clinton's to lose - so Bernie would have to really dig deep for grass roots support - if he is to be a legitimate contender for the Democratic Nomination.
As things continue to heat up on the Republican side, the Democrats have given two very clear messages, differing greatly. Sander's has often been accused of being a socialist and that's probably because he is a self proclaimed preacher for the "democratic socialist movement." A term that does not sit well with the general voting public. For Sanders to be successful he must work tirelessly explaining what he means by the use of the term “#socialism" - as it will be a continuously reoccurring theme in attack against him. He must work to define how he plans to incorporate this ideological framework into the future of our society - for Independents and Republicans alike - both groups the Senator feels he can court in significant numbers.
