Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal was dragged by a car for 15 metres outside gate No. 2 at AIIMS early on Thursday. Police said the accused approached Maliwal in his car and asked her to get in. When she reprimanded the man, he rolled up the window, trapping her hand. When he drove off, Maliwal was dragged for a short distance. The accused was later arrested and sent to 14 days in judicial custody. The National Commission for Women (NCW) also took cognisance of media reports on the incident and has sought an action taken report from Delhi Police within two days. The accused was identified as Harish Chandra, 47, a resident of Sangam Vihar in south Delhi. Police described him as a former telecom company employee but was currently unemployed. Chandan Chowdhary, DCP (South), said a special patrolling vehicle alerted the police control room at 3.11am on Thursday when they saw a woman standing alone on the pavement opposite AIIMS Gate Number 2 and stopped to inquire whether she was in distress.
